A Sunday Evening Well Spent :)

A lazy Sunday evening, while sipping a steaming cup of chai in the balcony and having a conversation with a friend about the weekend, good clothes, restaurant's that we have not been to for a while, the shops that we want to ransack (Yes ladies its raining SALE every where!!) and all other worldly stuff. She reminded me of a long pending Chocolate Cake that I owe her. Yes I promised her that I shall bake her a cake when she visits me, but some how I have not been able to keep that promise. Sigh! However, I decided to have some fun myself and decided to Bake a Chocolate cake. The recipe for which I received from a colleague. He calls it "Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake" with a twist!! This is how it was made :)

Ingredients

2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla/chocolate essence
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 and 1/2 cups of all purpose flour(Maida)
1 cup granualted sugar/ powdered sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 cup hot water/coca-cola/hot coffee.... optional but must when not using eggs
100 gms melted  unsalted or salted butter/cooking oil

Step 1 : Add Flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda in a big bowl and sift them together
Step 2 : Powder the granulated sugar in a big mixie jar. Add the eggs in it and mix again.
Step 3 : Melt the 100 gms of butter/oil and add in the mixie jar.
Step 4 : Add the flour mixture in the mixie jar
Step 5 : Add vanilla or chocolate essence
Step 6 : 1 cup of hot water(to make the cake a little wet) or coke or a cup of boiled coffee( 1 tsp coffee in a cup of water). Coffee gives a flavour. Coca Cola gives the sponginess to the cake. Hot water makes the cake a little soft and wet. You can also go for a cup of very smooth cream. The cream will make the cake soft and tight.
Step 7 : Pre heat the oven at 180 degrees for 5-10 minutes.
Step 8 : Mix everything in a mixer until the batter is thick and ready to form ribbons when poured in the baking pan.
Step 9 : Grease the pan and put the baking powder or spread a little bit of flour
Step 10 : Pour the batter in the baking pan.
Step 11: Bake the cake at 180 degrees for 35 minutes. You can check the cake with the knife after 20 minutes as well.
Step 12: After 35 minutes check the cake, by inserting a toothpick and if comes out clean.. Ur cake is ready!

Now for the toppings/icing....

Pour some chocolate sauce and grate some dark chocolate on it... Too add some color to my dark chocolate cake I added a few Gems :) :)

A Sunday evening well spent!! As Julia Child would have said " Bon Appetit !!! "
